Frequently Asked Questions About EyePromise

Q: What are the differences between EyePromise® Restore and EyePromise® Ten?
A: EyePromise Restore contains a mix of ingredients similar to but more extensive than the AREDS II formula; Zeaxanthin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc, Omega 3's, Alpha Lipoic Acid, mixed Tocopherols, and Lutein. The ratio of zeaxanthin to lutein in EyePromise Restore is the same as the fovea of a healthy macula. EyePromise Ten (10mg zeaxanthin) contains only dietary zeaxanthin and the product was formulated for those already taking a number of vitamins, those allergic to or unable to tolerate fish oil, and vegans. EyePromise provides the highest available dose of dietary zeaxanthin available.

Q: What is the science behind EyePromise Restore?
A: The POLA study (Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science 2006) demonstrated that patients with high plasma levels of zeaxanthin had a 93% reduction of AMD. The Gale Study (Ophthalmology and Visual Science: 2003) demonstrated that low zeaxanthin correlated with significantly higher AMD risk. Zeaxanthin and lutein were not commercially available at the time of the first AREDS study however numerous studies over the past decade have demonstrated their importance in AMD risk reduction. Please review the research section of the ZeaVision website for in-depth scientific information.

The original AREDS formulation contains two ingredients that are now believed to be problematic for some consumers: zinc at high doses and beta-carotene. The NEW AREDS II formula contains a reduced amount of zinc and a total elimination of beta-carotene. No other supplement contains the amount of dietary zeaxanthin found in EyePromise supplements.

Zeaxanthin is less available in the average diet than lutein and scientific studies confirm a daily zeaxanthin intake of 6 to 10 mgs is important for eye health. Zeaxanthin is preferentially placed in the center of the macula where the largest concentration of visual cells exist. The body’s unique placement of zeaxanthin in the fovea is a clear indicator of its importance.

Q: Is EyePromise safe?
A: In 2000, an extensive zeaxanthin NDI (New Dietary Ingredient Application) was submitted to the FDA documenting the safety of dietary Zeaxanthin. Subsequently, the World Health Organization established an acceptable daily intake (upper tolerable limits) of up to 2 milligrams of Zeaxanthin per kilogram of body weight (equivalent to 163mg for a 180-pound man). These results were reported in its Summary and Conclusions, 63rd Meeting, Geneva, June 2004. Additionally, no serious adverse events have been reported with over ten million EyePromise doses consumed. ZeaVision products are manufactured to strict cGMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines enforced by the FDA. Production lots are analyzed in independent laboratory testing to ensure they meets our strict quality guidelines of labeling, purity, and composition.
