Frequently Asked Questions for Eye Care Professionals
Q: How safe are the EyePromise products?
A: Dietary Zeaxanthin was extensively safety tested in one of the most extensive NDIs (New Dietary
Ingredients) ever presented to the FDA on Zeaxanthin in 2000. Subsequently, the World Health Organization established an
acceptable daily intake of up to two milligrams of Zeaxanthin per kilogram of body weight, reported in its Summary and
Conclusions, 63 rd Meeting, Geneva , June 2004.
Q: Are there any known interactions between EyePromise and other medications or supplements?
A: No adverse reactions have been reported since therapeutic levels of Zeaxanthin were introduced in 2002
Q: Which dose of EyePromise is best?
A: When patients are over the age of 50, it is hard for even the most healthful diet
to protect eyes completely. Studies have shown that there is a daily gap of 4 to 6 mg of Zeaxanthin versus
what your patients’ eyes need. To make up for the deficit, we recommend that patients who are at low to
moderate risk of developing macular degeneration begin by taking EyePromise Five (particularly if they
have a sensitivity to fish oil or any other nutrients found in EyePromise Restore. Patients at higher
risk, those with a family history, or who have already been diagnosed with macular degeneration, even
if they suffer from no symptoms, should take EyePromise Restore, as this provides the maximum available
daily dosage of dietary Zeaxanthin plus an AREDS II-based formula that eliminates the beta-carotene and
lowers the zinc to safer levels, and adds zeaxanthin, lutein, Omega-3’s and Alpha Lipoic Acid.
Q: What's the best way to take EyePromise?
A: Like most dietary supplements, your patients should take either EyePromise
formula with food to aid in bioavailability. These supplements should not be considered a substitute
for healthy dietary habits, like eating five to six servings of fruits and vegetables per day as
recommended by many health associations.
Q: How long should patients take EyePromise?
A: EyePromise supplements should be a permanent part of your patients’ health regimen.
There is strong evidence that taking EyePromise can increase the zeaxanthin levels in the center of the macula.
Zeaxanthin levels can also decrease based on low dietary consumptions of Zeaxanthin. Thus, the use of EyePromise
should be part of a life-long transformation in lifestyle and dietary change that are associated with decreasing
risk factors of acquired vision loss. It is recommended that EyePromise supplements be taken daily with meals
for at least six months before evaluating results.
Q: What’s the difference between Zeaxanthin and ZeaVision?
A: Zeaxanthin is the naturally occurring carotenoid that is part of our everyday diet and is found
to have beneficial effects on the eye. EyePromise brand zeaxanthin is the only available and patent-protected zeaxanthin
dietary supplement that provides a large enough dosage of zeaxanthin shown to be effective for bolstering eye health. You
might find small amounts of zeaxanthin in other products, but only EyePromise delivers the amount of zeaxanthin that the
body needs. ZeaVision, LLC is the company that offers the EyePromise brand to you and your patients and formerly produced
zeaxanthin only products under the brand name ZeaVision. Both the 10mg and the 3mg Zeaxanthin only products have been
discontinued with the introduction of the EyePromise products.
Q: Why should I recommend EyePromise?
A: Zeaxanthin is absorbed into the blood stream and is then transported to the eye.
The eye preferentially places zeaxanthin in the very center of the macula, the area most important to central
vision. Additionally, zeaxanthin’s molecular structure allows for better membrane spanning, is a superior
antioxidant and photoprotectant, relative to lutein.
Q: If patients are already taking lutein, do they also need EyePromise?
A: There are reasons why Zeaxanthin may be more important than lutein. First, Zeaxanthin is preferentially deposited
in a 2:1 ratio vs. lutein in the center of the macula.
Second, lutein is 20 times more prevalent in a healthy diet than Zeaxanthin; and increased Zeaxanthin supplementation
increases macular pigment density. Zeaxanthin is rare in the diet; however, it is preferentially taken up by the macula
and deposited in the most crucial portion of the macula – the very center, at a ratio of 2:1 over lutein. It is critical
that patients at risk for age-related macular degeneration and those diagnosed with AMD, receive the maximum beneficial
amounts of zeaxanthin to replenish the heart of the macula.
